I’m dreaming of an intersectionally feminist Christmas

(nvl) It’s December and with it comes the start of the gift-giving season. No matter which denomination you belong to, there are simply too many occasions towards the end of the year to give presents to family and friends. So to make sure you don’t have to venture into the pedestrian zone or shopping centre on December 23rd to find the perfect gift at the last minute, we have collected some suggestions that will make the hearts of the feminists in your life – or those who want to become feminists – beat faster.

1. An expliCID subscription: Do you want your friends to be informed and provided with feminist information? Then why not give them an annual subscription as a gift? For a donation of €20 or more, the next 4 issues will land in the recipient’s letterbox.
You can do this by paying the contribution:

  • in cash at the library
  • to the account CCPL LU 03 1111 1081 4284 0000
  • or using Payconiq

Don’t forget to tell us the name and address of the future reader.

Donations to CID | Fraen an Gender are tax-deductible.

2. Brand new CID merch so that the recipient can show their colours: We have caps, socks, notepads, pins, and stickers in our range, all labelled with funny, feminist slogans in Luxembourgish. And as a highlight, the feminist carrier bags to protect the valuable books from our library from wind and weather.

3. CID publications: Whether you are looking for something suitable for the music lover in the family, the teacher, or the historian – there is something here for everyone.

Books:
Fighting with the Sharks | Women and Gender in Luxembourg since 1940

The Spectre of Feminism. Women’s Movement in Luxembourg. Yesterday – Today – Tomorrow

KeK Volume 1-3 | Lesson folders for discovering artists and writers

When the Piano Turns Pink | A musical children’s book by 4 artists

Not the Girl You’re Looking For:  Melusina Rediscovered | Object + Subject Woman in Luxembourg Culture
CDs:
The Lucky Fairy:  A Musical Fairy Tale for Children

Lou Koster: The Violinist of Echternach

Songs and Ballads by Helen Buchholtz (double CD)

4. How about a voucher from your favourite company run by women*? Does the recipient love books? Then head to Alinea. For unique earrings, we recommend Rambazamba . Do you like lively gifts and want to support independent designers at the same time? Then the online shop Alchemilla is the place to go. For fashion enthusiasts, Devï offers a variety of ethical, upcycled and unique clothing. At J’adore bio there is a selection of natural cosmetic products, which recently moved to a new location. Right next door is The Christmas Collective, an initiative by Makimba et Marilou together with various designers from Luxembourg, who have packed the old Alinea premises with gifts of all kinds.

5. Support a local feminist artist, like Lisa Junius and her magic hair clips, Ruth Atelier’s evolutive furniture, or order prints or rugs from JÜdesigns, a textile and graphic designer and the artist behind this issue’s expliCID cover.

6. In good old “Fric fir de Feminismus” tradition, you can also support a local feminist non-profit organisation in the name of your friends, e.g. Passerell or Amnesty.

7. Last but not least, the best gift for every feminist: unite, inform yourself, sensitise the people around you, and get loud for equality and against discrimination!

Have we not listed your favourite shop or artist? Let us know for next year by sending an email to info@cid-fg.lu.
