Mutterrache, or Mother’s Revenge, is a story of a mother who is no longer in contact with her daughter for various reasons relating to familiar trauma. The daughter has cut the mother out from her life due to the neglect she suffered under. The mother lived a tumultuous life while following her partner around the world, dragging her daughter along, never granting her a proper or even decent childhood. The mother believed she had to follow him around, otherwise she would not be desirable, nor a good partner, nor a good woman. The mother finds herself grieving the loss of the connection to her daughter around a time of year when usually families would come together to celebrate. She damns herself more than her ex-partner and makes excuses for him but seems to struggle to forgive herself. This short story is a tragic one of feminist loss; the protagonist looks back on her life thinking of how it could have been different, had she only had the courage.
