Volunteering at the CID

In addition to our CID Volunteers network, which occasionally helps the team with book stands, events and clearing work in the library, young people also regularly complete a Service Volontaire from the National Youth Service (SNJ) with us and work in all areas of our day-to-day work.

Volunteering in cooperation with the SNJ offers young people between the ages of 18 and 30 the opportunity to learn and gain practical experience. It usually takes place as a full-time commitment over a period of three to twelve months. Participants in the program are covered by social insurance for the entire duration of their voluntary service and receive an allowance.

At the CID, we support one to three SNJ volunteers per year. We would like to briefly introduce our two most recent volunteers here.

You probably already know Ella from our Instagram account. With her Feminist of the Month series, she introduced our readers to famous feminists such as Judith Butler, Angela Davis and María Lugones. During her 7-month internship, she has been active on social media, including her series on the coalition program of our current government (in collaboration with our CID volunteer Liz). Ella has also written a paper on the influence of patriarchy on heterosexual sex practices and helped us design our feminist CID merchandise.

Anne did a three-month SNJ volunteer service with us this summer. She wrote posts for social media, for example about CID book recommendations. She used her International Studies degree to take a critical look at book selections about women of the world and order new books. Ad hoc activities such as designing a book table in Clerf, painting a protest banner for our “Kaméidi fir Mënscherechter” campaign or clearing archive boxes during our move keep the daily routine varied.
