A message from the president

Dear friends and supporters,

For 33 years, the CID has been campaigning for a feminist society – a society in which equality between women, men, and all genders is not merely an aspiration, but a lived reality. I am delighted that you are holding this annual report in your hands and can thus gain an overview of the diverse work carried out in 2025.

A particular milestone was the official opening of our children’s and youth library, CID | Y, in the presence of the Minister for Equality, Yuriko Backes, and the City of Luxembourg’s Councillor for Equality, Maurice Bauer. For over a year now, it has been welcoming young readers and creating a space for discovery, education, and empowerment.

In terms of content, we have engaged extensively with key socio-political issues, including pension inequality, the right to abortion, and structural, gender-based violence. Among the highlights were our conference on feminism and artificial intelligence with Eva Gengler from Feminist AI in June, as well as the reading with Christina Clemm on misogyny and structural sexism in the justice system in November.

In addition to our own events and campaigns, we were once again active in numerous collaborations and networks in 2025. Every enquiry reinforces our belief that feminist perspectives are in demand, because they are needed. At the same time, every collaboration is an enrichment for us. One thing is clear: intersectionality is not merely a buzzword, but a prerequisite for effective feminist work.

The CID’s activist work was also an important focus. In addition to the traditional demonstration on 8 March – International Women’s Rights Day – we were represented at protests against the trivialisation of violence in sport, at the large trade union demonstration, and at the Marche Orange against violence against girls and women.

In 2025, we also welcomed new colleagues to the team: Joëlle and Catherine, who have been enriching the CID both professionally and personally for over a year.

My special thanks go to our institutional funders, the Ministry for Gender Equality, the City of Luxembourg, and the Ministry of Culture, and not least to the private supporters who make our work possible. I would also like to thank the entire CID team as well as the many volunteers who supported us in 2025 – in particular our (SNJ) interns Sophia and Liz.

I hope you find this a stimulating and inspiring read.

Feminist regards,

Julia Maria Zimmermann
