“We are either going to have a future where women lead the way to make peace with the Earth or we are not going to have a human future at all.”
― Vandana Shiva
Vandana Shiva was born in 1952 in Dehradun, India but nowadays she is living in Delhi. Shiva is one of the leaders and board members of the International Forum on Globalization and is an author and environmental activist. She had chosen to study physics, more precisely quantum theory in India and Canada. In 1978, she completed and received her PhD in philosophy at the University of Western Ontario.Later on she founded the Research Foundation for Science, Technology and Ecology in India which led to the creation of „Navdanya“ in 1991, a movement to protect the diversity and integrity of especially native seed and the promotion of organic farming and fair trade products. In the meantime she has published books on the environment, sustainability and nutrition since the 1980s. In 1993 she received the „Alternative Nobel Prize“ and she believes in a sustainable production of food to create a better world. Some disasters brought her to promote biodiversity in agriculture to increase productivity, nutrition and farmer’s incomes. Shiva wants to find out how to do non-violent agriculture and she is well known for critisizing globalization and advocates for more systems science research that focuses on analyzing all interrelationships. In the CID library, we have got books about Vandana Shiva and ecofeminism aswell. The ASTM library got some books aswell 🙂
